Bochnia Culture Commission document controversy

A controversy has emerged in Bochnia regarding a document released by the Culture Commission through the eSesja system. The document, which concerns a motion to grant General Jerzy Kazimierz Dobrodzicki the title of Honorary Citizen of Bochnia, was uploaded to the system on August 23, a day before the scheduled commission meeting.

The document was dated August 24, 2026, and stated that the commission had already “determined” that the request deserved support and was “officially requesting” its approval. This led to criticism from councilor Maciej Gawęda, who questioned how the commission could have reached a decision before the meeting actually took place.

Katarzyna Korta-Wójcik, the Chair of the Culture Commission, explained that the document was a motion she had prepared and signed as the author, noting that councilors still had the opportunity to accept, reject, or amend it during the session. However, Gawęda pointed out that the document was not labeled as a draft, implying the decision had already been finalized. A legal advisor for the magistrate noted that if a signed document presents a commission's position as already adopted before the meeting occurs, it may not reflect the actual legal state of affairs.
