Bochum and Dorsten propose budget adjustments for 2027

The city of Bochum is facing a projected budget deficit of 213 million euros for 2027. In response, the STADTGESTALTER/Volt group has proposed streamlining the city administration by reducing the number of departments from six to five. This plan involves leaving one of two currently vacant department head positions unfilled, which could save the city at least 250,000 euros annually.

In Dorsten, the city is planning a slight reduction in expenditures for subsistence assistance in 2027. The projected budget for these services is approximately 118,000 euros, which is about 2,400 euros less than the 2026 allocation. The administration noted that many recipients only require temporary support due to temporary reductions in earning capacity, often transitioning to other social security systems later.
