Bochum discounter fire razes store and damages neighboring homes

A massive fire broke out on the evening of 18 June 2026 in the Bochum‑Linden district, engulfing a Tedi discounter and the attached warehouse. The blaze quickly spread to an adjacent residential building, rendering it uninhabitable. More than 100 firefighters from the Bochum professional and volunteer fire services, supported by units from Essen and the Technical Relief Agency, worked throughout the night and the following day to extinguish the flames and control hotspot reignitions. Extreme summer heat and the complex structure of the old mixed‑use building complicated the operation, forcing the closure of Hattinger Straße and the grounding of nearby tram lines.
