Bochum opens new leisure park at former Zeche Amalia mine
A new leisure park has opened on the site of the former Zeche Amalia coal mine in Bochum-Werne, Germany, following seven years of planning and construction. The 34-hectare site is being transformed into a family-oriented recreational area under the motto ‘Golf for all’.
The initial phase of the project includes ‘Adventure Golf’ and ‘Fun Football’, representing two of the six planned sections. The adventure golf course features 18 artificial grass holes with names inspired by local mining history, such as ‘Förderstrecke’ and ‘Schicht im Schacht’.
The development faced delays due to an investigation into potential contaminated soil involving a freight forwarding company. However, after authorities conducted 123 tests on the site, no toxic substances were found, and the operator confirmed close cooperation with city officials and experts.
