Bochum fire: Three Indian students killed, resident arrested for murder

A devastating fire in a multi-family residential building in the Hofstede district of Bochum, Germany, has resulted in the deaths of three Indian nationals. The victims, identified as two women aged 25 and 27 and a 26-year-old man, were students living in the building. Five other residents were treated for smoke inhalation.

German investigators have ruled out a technical defect or short circuit as the cause of the blaze. Consequently, police have arrested a 41-year-old Romanian man, a resident of the same building, on suspicion of murder and arson. The suspect is currently in custody following a warrant issued by a judge.

The Indian Embassy in Berlin and the Consulate General in Frankfurt are coordinating with local German authorities and providing assistance to the bereaved families. In India, the Kerala state government has initiated steps to repatriate the bodies of the victims, who were natives of Kerala.
