Błociszewo poultry farm fire destroys hen house in Poland

A fire broke out in the early hours of 18 June at a poultry farm in Błociszewo, near Śrem in the Greater Poland region. The blaze consumed a 100 × 15 metre poultry hall that housed roughly 25,000 laying hens, and the building was completely destroyed despite the effort of 17 volunteer and professional fire‑brigade units from the surrounding counties.

No people were injured, and three other hen houses on the site were saved from the flames. The cause of the fire is under investigation by police and fire‑science experts. Preliminary estimates put the economic loss at several million zlotys.
