Bodø City Council approves land-based aquaculture plans

The Bodø City Council has decided to proceed with plans for land-based aquaculture at Store Kalvøya, north of Landegode, despite formal objections from both the County Governor of Nordland and the Nordland County Council.

Environmental organization BirdLife Norge has campaigned against the project for several years, warning of significant industrial encroachment on a coastal area with high natural value and critical habitats for seabirds. An impact assessment indicated substantial negative consequences for biodiversity, landscape, outdoor recreation, climate, and pollution.

The municipality justifies its decision by citing expected economic benefits, including job creation, industrial development, food production, and tax revenue. The case will now move to the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development for a final decision.
