Bodhana Sivanandan and Shreyas Royal win British Chess Championships

At the 2026 British Chess Championships held in Coventry, two young players made history by securing major titles. Shreyas Royal, 17, won the overall British title, finishing ahead of experienced grandmasters Luke McShane and Michael Adams.

Bodhana Sivanandan, 11, became the youngest-ever British Women's chess champion. She secured her victory following a rapid-chess playoff against 14-year-old Trisha Kanyamarala from Ireland. The tournament was the largest in the event's 122-year history, featuring over 1,750 entries.
