Bodija International Market fire destroys 15 shops in Ibadan

A fire destroyed 15 shops at the Bodija International Market in Ibadan, Oyo State, during the early hours of Monday. The incident occurred in the Iso Ewa section of the market, specifically within a row of 44 shops.

Oyo State Fire Services Agency officials reported that the blaze was likely triggered by an electrical surge resulting from faulty wiring. Firefighters, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent Bamidele, arrived on the scene and successfully contained the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to the remaining shops in the block.

While the fire caused significant damage to goods and valuables worth millions of naira, no casualties were reported. Dr. Moroof Akinwande, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, urged traders and residents to maintain functional fire extinguishers to prevent similar occurrences.
