Bodmin Keep: Cornish MPs seek funding to save heritage site
Members of Parliament from across Cornwall and the leader of Cornwall Council have issued a joint plea to the Ministry of Defence to fund the preservation of Bodmin Keep. The historic military heritage site has been closed to the public since August 2024 due to significant structural issues, resulting in a loss of visitor access and ticket revenue.
The group is supporting a £3.6 million funding request. This proposal seeks £1 million from the Ministry of Defence for urgent structural repairs, which would serve as match funding to secure an additional £2.6 million from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and other organizations.
In a letter to minister Luke Pollard, the representatives emphasized the site's unique historical value to the Duchy and its deep connections to military personnel and their families. The effort is being conducted across party lines to ensure the long-term future of the 1859 building.
