Bodo da Lardosa enters public consultation for national heritage inventory
The traditional celebration known as ‘Bodo em Honra do Mártir São Sebastião da Lardosa’ has entered a 30-day public consultation phase to be inscribed in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage (INPCI).
Originating from a centuries-old vow of gratitude to Saint Sebastian for protecting the village from locust plagues during the 18th and 19th centuries, the event is centered on blessings, food sharing, and the distribution of traditional ‘coscoréis’. The festivities are held annually near January 19.
The Castelo Branco Municipality has supported the preservation of this heritage through various initiatives, including the requalification of Largo dos Olivais, thematic exhibitions, and the promotion of ‘coscoréis’ at international tourism fairs such as BTL and FITUR Madrid. Following the consultation period, the agency Património Cultural, I. P. has 120 days to reach a final decision.
