Bodrog and Tisza rivers cleanup sets new waste collection record

Participants of the VII. Bodrog-XIV. Tisza PET Cup collected a record 18.9 tons of waste from the floodplains of the Bodrog and Tisza rivers between August 15 and 23. The amount surpassed the previous 2024 record of 17.5 tons, despite fewer teams participating this year.

Of the total collected, 9.9 tons were gathered from the Bodrog section between Olaszliszka and Tokaj, while 9 tons were recovered from the Tisza river areas. Organizers noted that the high volume of waste, including items found in floodplain forests that may have been there for decades, indicates that the cleanup task is far from complete.

The event featured the debut of the PETiX, a new waste collection boat, and a canoe made from recycled plastic. The competition involved 12 teams, 11 of which were returning participants.
