Bodrum and Kos Island reduce lighting to combat light pollution
The '8. 8 Parla Parla Bodrum' event was held in the Gümüşlük coast of Bodrum, Muğla, to raise awareness about light pollution. During the event, lighting along the coastline was reduced, allowing stars and the night sky to become clearly visible.
In a notable development, Kos Island participated simultaneously by reducing some of its lighting. This joint action between Bodrum and Kos aimed to demonstrate that light pollution is a cross-border environmental issue. The initiative, organized by the Bodrum District Governorate, Bodrum Municipality, and the Bodrum Mukhtars Association, seeks to highlight how excessive artificial lighting affects energy consumption, the night ecosystem, and the life cycles of nocturnal animals, while aiming to preserve the starry sky for future generations.
