Bodrum development: New tourism and marine projects approved
Two new industrial and tourism projects have received environmental impact assessment (EIA) attention in the Bodrum district of Muğla.
RAMS Bodrum Turizm Yatırımları A. Ş. has received EIA approval for a 1.26 billion TL tourism project in the Torba neighborhood. The development, spanning 46,400 square meters, is planned to include 35 blocks with a total capacity of 185 rooms and 300 beds. Facilities will feature restaurants, a lobby bar, a Turkish bath, a gym, and various social areas. The project is expected to be completed within three years and will employ 100 people during its construction and operation phases.
Separately, Marmara Marine Sanayi ve Ticaret Ltd Şti has proposed a 55.3 million TL boat manufacturing, maintenance, and slipway facility in the İçmeler area. The project includes a 2,262 square meter fill area and a 187 square meter slipway. While the report suggests the project can produce several large boats annually and maintain up to 50 vessels, it notes the proximity of Posidonia oceanica seagrass beds. The report emphasizes that these seagrasses must be ‘especially protected’ and warns of potential risks, such as mass fish deaths if sediment is disturbed during dredging. The site is located within the Gökova North Coasts Important Nature Area.
