Bodrum Municipality purchases 62.5 tons of green mandarin from local producers

Bodrum Municipality has purchased 62.5 tons of green mandarin from 104 local producers to support the economic value of the geographically indicated Bodrum mandarin. The green harvest was conducted across several neighborhoods, including Bahçelievler, Bitez, Dereköy, Gündoğan, İslamhaneleri, Müskebi, Turgutreis, and Yalıkavak.

The collected fruit was packaged at the Herodot Cultural Center and shipped to Easy Mix Turkey for industrial use. According to Deputy Mayor and Agricultural Engineer Ercan Pehlivan, the green mandarins are intended for products such as ice cream, frozen fruit slices, freeze-dried fruit, and fruit juice. This year, the municipality also aims to extract higher value-added components like aromas and essential oils.

To promote a zero-waste approach, the residue from the processing will be utilized for animal feed production. Mayor Tamer Mandalinci emphasized that these efforts are vital for protecting the labor of producers and ensuring the sustainability of mandarin orchards for future generations.
