Bodrum Port Authority Head arrested in bribery sting

Tuncay Aydın, the Bodrum Regional Port Authority Head, has been arrested following a bribery sting operation in Muğla, Turkey. The investigation was launched after a yacht agency owner, T. Ş., reported that Aydın demanded 2,000 euros for every entry into Turkey made by a luxury yacht owned by a Russian businessman.

According to the complainant, the official requested a total of 12,000 euros for six entries during the 2026 summer season. The agency owner also alleged that Aydın had previously received funds to cover his child's circumcision ceremony expenses and had directed a 500,000 TL payment through a port employee in 2025.

Law enforcement conducted a sting using marked banknotes with recorded serial numbers. Aydın was caught red-handed in his office while accepting the money. During simultaneous searches of his office, residence, and vehicles, authorities seized 66,280 euros, 440 pounds, 660 dollars, 52,200 Turkish Lira, an unlicensed 9mm pistol, 138 rounds of ammunition, and several digital devices. A port employee, Ö. Ç., was also detained and released under judicial control.
