Bodrum sailing championships disrupted by lightning and rain

The 2026 ILCA Under-21 European Championships in Bodrum, Turkey, faced significant weather disruptions on the fourth day of competition. Lightning, heavy rain, and shifting wind conditions prevented any races from being completed, leaving the standings unchanged from the end of day three.

In the men’s ILCA 7 class, Greek sailor Marios Stathas currently leads the overall standings with 11 penalty points. Other notable leaders include Kutsal Gunes Kurnaz of Turkey in the ILCA 7 Under-19 category and Ginevra Caracciolo of Italy in the women’s ILCA 6 class.

Despite the delays, the competition continues with two days remaining to catch up on the schedule. The men’s final series has yet to begin, but the forecast for the upcoming days is expected to be more favorable for racing.
