Bodrum tourism leaders denounce negative media reports harming sector

Yiğit Girgin, the Bodrum representative of the Professional Hotel Managers Association (POYD), warned that sensational news claiming "Bodrum is alarmed" and predicting widespread hotel bankruptcies creates a false perception that damages the entire tourism ecosystem, which includes hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, boat operators, artisans and thousands of workers.

The Bodrum Hotelier Association (BODER) echoed these concerns, stating that unverified statements such as "occupancy rates will not exceed 60%" and "20,000 of 26,000 facilities are waiting for sales" lack any official data. The association said such rumors affect reservation levels, investor confidence, credit assessments and financing for the sector, and it has initiated legal action against content that harms commercial reputation.

Both organisations called for decisions and public commentary to be based on reliable statistics and sector‑wide analysis rather than isolated observations, stressing that Bodrum’s tourism performance varies by location, concept and market segment.
