Bodrum unveils 'Blue Door' art installations to promote tourism
Bodrum Municipality launched the "Maviye Açılan Kapı" (Blue Door) project, aiming to highlight the town’s natural and cultural assets through artist‑designed blue gates. The first gate was installed on Kumbahçe Beach, positioned with a view of Bodrum Castle, and features wooden frames, decorative motifs and plantings.
Local artists Saadet Çakıroğlu, Süheyla Akman and Ümit Gönenç created the patterns, while 19‑year‑old Meryem Sebile Gündüz painted the words “Saksı” and “Begonvil” on the structure. A municipal knitting group added woven designs of oranges and lemons. The installation quickly attracted Turkish and foreign visitors, who formed queues to take photos, and the site gained attention on social media.
The municipality plans to replicate similar blue doors across other neighborhoods, turning them into permanent photo‑spots and further enhancing Bodrum’s tourism appeal.
