Retired police officer Alfredo Alberto Carbano found dead in Las Toninas, two arrested

Alfredo Alberto Carbano, a 71‑year‑old retired police officer, disappeared after a fire damaged his home in Las Toninas, Buenos Aires Province, on 26 June. His abandoned Tata Sumo was recovered in nearby dunes, and on 9 July a search operation by the Sub‑Delegación Departamental de Investigaciones La Costa, police forensic units, firefighters and a K9 team uncovered his body buried in a sand dune near kilometre 314 of Ruta Provincial 11. The case was re‑classified as homicide. Investigators arrested two suspects – 17‑year‑old Facundo Tomás Acosta and 31‑year‑old Damián Aníbal Maciel – after finding contradictions in their earlier testimonies. Five search raids were conducted at locations linked to the suspects, and authorities seized 12 mobile phones, a notebook, tools, machetes, a shovel, an axe, a gold chain and a blood‑stained blanket for forensic analysis. The investigation remains ongoing.
