Body discovered outside Tijuana stadium where Iran's World Cup team trains

Mexican police are investigating a corpse found on Friday in a parking lot across from Estadio Caliente in Tijuana. The body was inside a bag in the trunk of a gray vehicle that officers opened after detecting a strong odor.

The discovery occurred while Iran's national soccer team uses the border city as its training base for the 2026 World Cup after moving from the United States due to visa delays and security concerns. Iran is scheduled to play its opening group match against New Zealand at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood on June 15, followed by games against Belgium and Egypt.

Tijuana, one of Mexico's most violent cities, has a recent history of high homicide rates, drug‑smuggling activity and large numbers of migrants denied entry to the United States. Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the deceased or the circumstances of the death.
