Body of 22-year-old recovered after Caroní River accident in Venezuela

Rescue teams from Caroní Firefighters, Civil Protection and local volunteers located the body of 22‑year‑old Maikel Rodríguez on the Caroní River in Bolívar state, Venezuela. Rodríguez disappeared on Monday morning when the jet‑ski he was riding suffered a malfunction and he was swept into the fast‑flowing river. Two companions managed to reach shore safely, prompting a continuous search that lasted more than 30 hours. The body was found on Tuesday in a stretch of the river between the Santa Rosa and Río Sipapo sectors, in the Unare parish.

The Caroní River, a major waterway supplying about 72 % of Venezuela’s electricity and drinking water to Ciudad Guayana, is known for strong currents and frequent recreational accidents. The operation combined official agencies with community volunteers to recover the victim.
