Body of 8‑year‑old boy recovered from Croatia's Drava River

A body of an 8‑year‑old boy who disappeared three days earlier was found in the Drava River about two kilometres downstream of the village of Selnica Podravska in Croatia. The discovery was made during an extensive search that involved the county police, divers, firefighters and the national mountain‑rescue service (HGSS), as well as Red Cross volunteers. Recent heavy rains had caused the river to swell, creating a slippery and hazardous riverbank that hampered rescue efforts.

The boy had gone missing while a group of children were at an old swimming spot on the river. His parents had been reported to authorities three months earlier for alleged neglect, but no wrongdoing was established at that time.
