Body of missing German tourist recovered near Syme, Greece

On the morning of 5 August 2026, the Greek Coast Guard retrieved a floating male body near the Panormiti islet in the sea off Syme. The body was transferred by boat to the General Hospital of Rhodes for forensic examination to determine whether it belongs to the eighth German tourist who vanished after a sailboat capsized on 2 August 2026.

Earlier rescue operations had located seven of the eight passengers from the capsized vessel, including a woman who swam ashore and four others rescued by patrol boats. The search for the remaining missing passenger continues.
