Body recovered after Rio de Janeiro vent storm in Paraty
On Thursday 30 July, the Corpo de Bombeiros do Estado do Rio de Janeiro located an unidentified body inside a sunken boat at Praia de Tarituba in Paraty, after a strong windstorm (ventania) struck the state on Wednesday 29 July with gusts exceeding 100 km/h. The divers from the Grupo de Busca e Salvamento recovered the victim, and the body will be forwarded to the Instituto Médico Legal for identification.
The storm caused widespread damage across the Costa Verde region: at least two deaths were confirmed, including a wall collapse in Santa Teresa, Rio de Janeiro. More than 400 000 homes lost electricity, dozens of trees fell on roads and properties, and 31 rescues were recorded. Authorities logged 290 related incidents, ranging from tree falls to fires, and sections of BR‑101 between Angra dos Reis and Mangaratiba were temporarily closed due to fallen trees.
