Boehringer Ingelheim family tops Germany's 500 wealthiest list
The 26th edition of the manager magazin list of the 500 wealthiest Germans reveals a record 257 billionaires in the country. The Boehringer Ingelheim shareholder family has taken the top position with an estimated wealth of 66.7 billion euros. Dieter Schwarz follows in second place with 53.7 billion euros, and the Merck family ranks third with 50.7 billion euros.
The total adjusted wealth of Germany's 100 richest individuals rose by 3.4 percent over the last twelve months to nearly 784 billion euros, though this growth lagged behind the nearly 9 percent increase seen in the Dax stock index. The list highlights the influence of the domestic startup scene, specifically noting entrepreneurs in the artificial intelligence sector, such as Jan Oberhauser of N8n and David Reger of Neura Robotics.
In the Saarland region, six families or entrepreneurial groups appear on the national list, with a combined estimated wealth of 8.1 billion euros. The Hager family leads the regional ranking at 97th place with 2.7 billion euros. The Bruch family, associated with the Globus retail business, ranks 122nd with 2.2 billion euros, though their wealth reportedly decreased by 400 million euros over the past year.
