Boehringer Ingelheim rejects IPO and sale plans

Boehringer Ingelheim, the family-owned pharmaceutical giant, has confirmed it has no plans for an initial public offering (IPO) or a sale of the company. CEO Shashank Deshpande emphasized that maintaining financial independence is a top priority for the firm.

Deshpande stated that the company does not rely on external investors or capital providers, noting that the organization “thinks in generations, not in quarters.” This long-term approach allows the company to continue growing through its own strength.

Despite competing with publicly traded rivals that utilize capital markets to fund operations, Boehringer Ingelheim continues to invest heavily in innovation. In 2025, the company reported a revenue of 27.8 billion euros and invested approximately 6.4 billion euros into research and development.
