Boeing 777F overtakes 747F as world's most operated freighter

The Boeing 777 Freighter has officially surpassed the Boeing 747F in active service numbers, becoming the most operated widebody cargo aircraft in the world. With more than 330 aircraft currently in operation, the 777F now accounts for approximately 40% of global dedicated freighter air cargo capacity.

The shift from the four-engine 747 to the twin-engine 777F marks a significant generational transition in aviation logistics, driven by the latter's superior fuel efficiency and lower operating costs. The fleet facilitates a massive volume of global trade, with the estimated value of goods transported by 777F aircraft reaching approximately $4 trillion over the last year.

Boeing has also received an extension for the production of the current 777F model. While originally slated to end in late 2027 due to new ICAO emission standards, the FAA has granted an exemption allowing for additional sales and airworthiness certification through 2028. Looking forward, the company is progressing with the development of the next-generation 777-8F, which aims to further increase payload capacity and reduce fuel consumption.
