Boeing and Thailand partner on new pilot training system
Boeing and the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) are implementing a new competency-based pilot training system. Through this collaboration, CAAT becomes the first aviation regulator to adopt Boeing’s CBTA Learning Library for nationwide application across participating flight schools.
The Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) approach shifts the focus from mere flight hours and repetitive maneuvers to a more holistic evaluation. The system assesses a pilot's ability to apply technical knowledge and practical skills in diverse operational environments, emphasizing critical competencies such as decision-making, situational awareness, communication, teamwork, and workload management.
By standardizing training through this digital library, Thailand aims to ensure consistent education quality across various flight schools and better prepare candidates for modern aviation requirements. This initiative comes amid projections from Boeing that Southeast Asia will require approximately 66,000 new pilots over the next 20 years due to growing air traffic and expanding airline fleets.
