Boeing delivers first F-15EX destined for Kadena Air Base

Boeing has delivered the first F-15EX Eagle II fighter jet designated for permanent stationing at Kadena Air Base in Japan. The aircraft, identified as EX-22, departed Boeing’s St. Louis facility on August 28 and is traveling to the Portland Air National Guard Base in Oregon for additional preparations.

The U.S. Air Force plans to station 36 F-15EX aircraft permanently at Kadena to replace the aging F-15C/D fleet. This modernization effort is intended to enhance combat airpower capabilities and reinforce the defense partnership between the United States and Japan. Kadena will become the second Air Force location to operate the F-15EX in a combat configuration, following the 142nd Wing in Portland.

Permanent arrivals of the F-15EX at Kadena are expected to begin during fiscal year 2027. Brigadier General John Gallemore, commander of the 18th Wing, described the delivery as an important step toward bringing the new capability to the Airmen stationed in Japan.
