Boeing launches fourth 737 MAX assembly line at Everett plant

Boeing began operating a fourth 737 MAX final‑assembly line, dubbed the North Line, at its Everett, Washington facility on July 6. The line mirrors the three existing lines at the nearby Renton plant and will initially raise monthly production from 42 to 47 jets, with a target of 52 jets per month by early 2027 and studies to reach as many as 70 jets.

The expansion is part of Boeing’s effort to restore financial stability after years of production setbacks, safety incidents and supply‑chain strain. The Federal Aviation Administration had limited 737 output following a January 2024 mid‑air door‑plug blowout on an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9, prompting tighter manufacturing oversight. Everett’s plant, the world’s largest building by volume, previously housed production lines for the 747, 767, 777 and 787, providing ample space for the new line. The move aims to meet strong global demand for single‑aisle aircraft that compete with Airbus’s A320neo family.
