Boeing pays $3.1 million FAA fine for safety violations

Boeing has paid a $3.1 million fine to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) following numerous violations of safety and quality regulations. Although the payment was made in January 2026, the information was only recently made public by the regulator.

The sanctions stem from investigations into quality control failures at Boeing’s Renton, Washington, facility and at subcontractor Spirit AeroSystems in Wichita, Kansas. These issues were identified during the period between September 2023 and February 2024. Specific violations include the improper assembly of components and instances where aircraft were submitted for certification despite inspector concerns regarding airworthiness.

The FAA also documented attempts to influence the independence of safety personnel, including an instance where a Boeing employee pressured a colleague performing FAA-related duties to approve a 737 MAX to meet delivery schedules. These regulatory failures follow the January 2024 Alaska Airlines incident, in which a Boeing 737 MAX 9 lost a door plug mid-flight.
