Boeing announced it has sent a contract offer to the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA), the union representing about 17,000 engineers and technical workers in its commercial airplane division. The SPEEA negotiating team endorsed the proposal, although no details of the offer were released at the time. The existing SPEEA contract is set to expire on 6 October.

The company warned that a strike by the union could further postpone certification work on its 737 MAX 10, the largest variant of the single‑aisle jet, and on the 777‑9, its biggest wide‑body model. Boeing is already several years behind schedule on certification, a process that relies heavily on engineering work. This follows three consecutive years of major union negotiations at Boeing, two of which ended after extended strikes. In January, Boeing reached a separate agreement with roughly 1,600 SPEEA members at the former Spirit AeroSystems plant in Wichita, Kansas, that included a $6,000 ratification bonus, wage raises, enhanced medical and retirement benefits and six extra days of vacation per year.
