Boeing union rejects contract offer and authorizes strike

Engineers and technicians represented by the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) have rejected Boeing’s latest contract proposals. Members voted to authorize a potential strike, which could begin after current contracts expire on October 6.

Approximately 64% of members voted to reject the agreements, while nearly 88% voted in favor of strike authorization. The union represents between 17,000 and 20,000 professionals across sites in Washington, Oregon, California, and Utah.

The rejected offer included a proposed aggregate wage increase of nearly 30% over four years—the largest such increase for the union since 1983—along with three additional days of paid leave, reduced mandatory overtime, and increased virtual work opportunities. Despite the negotiation team’s unanimous endorsement of the deal, union members expressed dissatisfaction, with some citing a lack of trust in leadership.

Boeing has stated it is implementing a contingency plan in response to the vote. The company maintained that its offer was designed to position employees among market leaders in pay and benefits within the Pacific Northwest.
