Boeing workers approve new contract, averting strike threat

Boeing workers have ratified a new four-year contract, effectively averting a strike that threatened to disrupt production and the certification processes for the 737 MAX 10 and 777X aircraft. The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA), which represents approximately 17,000 engineers and technical staff, approved the sweetened offer through two separate votes.

The professional unit, comprising roughly 13,000 engineers and scientists, voted 67.62% in favor of the deal. The technical unit, representing about 4,000 analysts and technicians, approved the agreement with 53.48% support. This follows a previous rejection of an earlier proposal in August.

Under the terms of the agreement, employees will receive an immediate 10% wage increase upon ratification, followed by annual guaranteed raises of 4%. The contract also includes the potential for an additional 2% merit-based increase.

The resolution of this labor dispute provides Boeing with greater operational certainty as it works to increase jet production and secure federal regulatory approvals. Following the news, Boeing shares saw a notable increase, and analysts at Jefferies reiterated a 'buy' rating with a $265 price target.
