Sam Altman wins dismissal of sexual abuse lawsuit from sister
A federal judge in Missouri has dismissed a civil lawsuit filed by Ann Altman against her brother, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The lawsuit, which was initiated in January 2025, accused Sam Altman of repeated sexual abuse and rape occurring between 1997 and 2006.
District Judge Zachary Bluestone ruled that the case must be dismissed because Ann Altman failed to appear for an independent medical examination on three separate occasions, despite being warned that her absence would lead to the dismissal of the case. The judge noted that the plaintiff failed to fulfill her procedural obligations, effectively blocking the progression of the lawsuit. The dismissal is final, preventing her from refiling the same claims.
Sam Altman has consistently denied all allegations. In a joint statement with their mother and two brothers, the Altman family described the claims as “completely untrue” and expressed concern for Ann’s mental health. The family stated they have provided her with ongoing financial support, including assistance with bills and rent, to help her access medical care.
