Bogotá airport detains fraud suspect amid aviation capacity recommendations
Colombian authorities have detained Mikhael Mezrahi, a 61-year-old Mexican-Israeli national, at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá. The detention follows an Interpol red notice issued by the United Arab Emirates regarding an alleged bank fraud totaling approximately US$16.7 million (61.44 million UAE dirhams). The charges involve fraud, money laundering, forgery, and the use of forged documents.
Separately, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has issued recommendations for El Dorado to optimize its operations. IATA suggests that the airport must improve its capacity to meet growing demand through better airspace management, strengthened air traffic control, and independent parallel approach procedures. The organization emphasizes that physical infrastructure expansion must be coordinated with operational improvements to ensure airfare competitiveness and effective capacity utilization.
