Bogotá authorities investigate abandonment of one-year-old baby

Authorities in Bogotá are investigating the abandonment of a one-year-old baby in the Catalina neighborhood of the Kennedy district. The child was discovered during the early hours of Thursday, September 10, 2026, sleeping in front of a residence after a neighbor reported hearing knocks and whimpering at the door.

The infant was found accompanied by a suitcase containing diapers, wipes, clothing, and toys. Despite being exposed to low overnight temperatures, the child is reported to be in stable health. The Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF) has taken custody of the minor to begin the process of restoring his rights.

Security camera footage from the area shows a woman with long black hair carrying the child hours before he was found. Police are currently analyzing the video to identify the woman and determine her relationship to the child and her level of responsibility in the incident.
