Bogotá authorities urge immediate reporting of missing persons
Authorities in Bogotá are urging citizens to report missing persons immediately rather than waiting the traditional 72-hour period. The District Secretariat of Security, Coexistence, and Justice emphasized that the first three hours are critical for an effective location of a missing individual.
To facilitate rapid response, the Attorney General's Office (Fiscalía General de la Nación) utilizes the Urgent Search Mechanism (MBU) to coordinate field operations from the moment a request is made. The Technical Investigation Body (CTI) leads these tracking efforts. Citizens, family members, or public entities can activate this mechanism directly through the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, the Attorney General's offices, or by calling line 122.
For immediate local assistance, the public can use the 123 Emergency Line to activate operational quadrants. Additionally, the Integral Assistance to Denunciation (AIDE) team provides guidance to families throughout the judicial process.
