Colombia regional news: Bogotá violence prevention and CNE funding for Claudia López
Various regional developments are occurring across Colombia and other locations. In Bogotá, the Government Commission of the City Council approved a project to prevent and address vicarious violence, a form of gender-based aggression where partners use children or pets to harm mothers. The initiative includes mandatory training for health and judicial officials and the creation of a District Day against Vicarious Violence.
In the electoral sphere, the National Electoral Council (CNE) approved a reimbursement of nearly 5,000 million pesos to the ‘Claudia Imparable’ group led by former Bogotá Mayor Claudia López. This compensates campaign expenses from the March inter-party consultation, making her the first 2026 presidential contender to receive state reimbursement.
Other regional news includes: Tuluá's mayor proposing 6-million-peso material kits for earthquake victims; Pasto implementing gunpowder safety campaigns; Ibagué debating the creation of new secretariats costing over 1,700 million pesos annually; Yopal approving a 52,000-million-peso budget addition; and Magdalena establishing 11 ‘Purple Clinics’ for victims of gender violence. Additionally, authorities in Santa Cruz de Tenerife are launching awareness campaigns against vicarious violence, while officials in Cotopaxi coordinate security for the Mama Negra festivities.
