Bogotá Council Calls for Nation‑District Table to Secure Funding for Ten Key Projects

Bogotá Councilor Rolando González, president of the council’s Finance Commission, sent a letter to president‑elect Abelardo de la Espriella requesting the creation of a permanent “mesa Nación‑Distrito.” The table would coordinate the 2027 budget to guarantee financing for ten strategic initiatives, including the first and second Metro lines, Regiotram, major road corridors, water and energy supply, hospital expansion, prison construction and other infrastructure.

The proposal follows the president‑elect’s announcement of a special manager for Bogotá to address mobility and security. In parallel, the city’s “Bogotá, mi Ciudad, mi Casa” program will close part of Avenida de las Américas from July 29, 2026 for nine months to build a ramp and upgrade utilities, while keeping two lanes open and relocating a transit stop 60 m east. These actions aim to unblock stalled projects and improve services for Bogotá’s residents.
