Neuquén jury convicts Roberto Sánchez for transfemicide

A popular jury in Neuquén, Argentina, has found Roberto Daniel Sánchez guilty of the transfemicide of Azul Semeñenko. The verdict, reached after 12 hearings and more than 30 testimonies, classified the crime as a triple aggravated homicide based on cruelty, hatred of gender identity, and gender-based violence.

Prosecutor Agustín García noted the complexity of the case, emphasizing that the evidence required careful contextualization for the jury. The victim was killed in September 2025 at the defendant's residence. This marks a historic judicial milestone for the province, being the first hate crime of this nature to reach a jury verdict since the 2012 legal reforms.

Sánchez faces potential life imprisonment. The specific sentence will be determined in a forthcoming hearing scheduled by the Judicial Office.
