Bogotá expands pet‑friendly parks and gears up for 2026 Summer Festival
The Instituto Distrital de Recreación y Deporte (IDRD) and the Secretaría Distrital de Cultura, Recreación y Deporte (SDCRD) have upgraded the city’s urban infrastructure to create pet‑adapted spaces. Bogotá now counts more than 5,000 parks, and flagship locations such as Parque Metropolitano Simón Bolívar, Parque El Tunal and Parque Ecológico Agua Viva feature fenced canine zones, obstacle tracks, water fountains and safety‑leash fixtures. The agencies also promote basic pet‑owner rules, including mandatory collars, waste collection and muzzles for certain breeds.
From 31 July to 31 August 2026, Bogotá will host the 29th edition of its Summer Festival, a month‑long programme of over 60 sports, cultural and recreational events. Directed by IDRD chief Daniel García Cañón and backed by Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán, the festival invites Mexico as a guest country and includes highlights such as the South American Beach Volleyball Circuit, the International Taekwondo Cup, a concert on 1 August featuring Calibre 50 and other artists, and numerous community activities across the district’s parks and public spaces.
