Bogotá expands transit operations for World Cup and launches San Cristóbal cable‑car tests

The Bogotá mayor’s office extended the operating hours of the TransMilenio mass‑transit system and the Integrated Public Transport System (SITP) to accommodate the influx of fans for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Additional service will cover key commercial and nightlife districts such as Fontanar, Tunal, Carrera Séptima, and the Zona Rosa, aiming to ensure safe return of spectators and stimulate local economic activity.

The city also began the final testing phase of the TransMiCable San Cristóbal aerial cable‑car project. Officials supervised the movement of 144 cabins along a route connecting Senderos de Altamira station to the 20 de Julio portal. With more than 90% of civil works completed, the system is slated for commercial operation in December 2026. It is expected to serve around 35,000 daily passengers, cut travel times from 45 minutes to about 10 minutes, and includes solar‑powered stations and other technical innovations.
