Bogotá hosts senior citizen dance festival

The second edition of the ‘Festival de Danza Mayor’ is taking place in Bogotá at the Teatro Centro García Márquez El Original from September 23 to October 3. The event features more than 12 dance groups composed of approximately 150 senior citizens representing nine different localities, including Teusaquillo, San Cristóbal, Kennedy, Los Mártires, Suba, Engativá, and Bosa.

Organizers created the initiative to provide a platform for older adults to participate as performers rather than just spectators, helping to combat social isolation and promote physical activity. Participants use dance to maintain memory and community engagement, with some groups highlighting the benefits of movement for individuals with disabilities.
