Bogotá Hosts South American Under-16 Tennis Championship

From 3 to 8 August 2024, Bogotá will host the South American Under‑16 Tennis Championship at the America Tennis Club in Chapinero Alto. Ten national teams – Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela and the host Colombia – will compete in both boys’ and girls’ divisions. The tournament serves as the regional qualifier for the Junior Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup world finals, with the top finishers earning spots at the 2026 global events.

Colombia fields separate male and female squads. The women’s team includes Emanuela Lares (Valle del Cauca), Laura Villamil (Bogotá) and Alicia Londoño (Antioquia) under captain Carlos Salamanca. The men’s side features Alex Pérez and Samuel Pedraza (both Bogotá) and Jhonatan Sarmiento (Cundinamarca) led by Carlos Núñez. The competition follows a round‑robin group stage, with group winners advancing to the final on 8 August and runners‑up contesting a third‑place match. This edition returns to Bogotá after a nine‑year gap; the last tournament in 2017 saw Colombia win the women’s title, launching the career of future star Camila Osorio.
