Bogotá inaugurates robotics innovation center and launches citywide science‑technology capacity survey

The Bogotá Education Secretariat, led by Julia Rubiano de la Cruz, announced that on 9 July a new Center of Innovation and Robotics will be opened at the Sierra Morena school in Ciudad Bolívar. The 50 million‑peso upgrade includes new flooring, structured cabling, modern lighting and upgraded electrical systems, creating a laboratory for programming, robotics, artificial intelligence, digital design and computational thinking to serve thousands of students in the city’s south.

At the same time, the city’s agency for higher education, science and technology, Atenea, began the 2026 Measurement of Science, Technology and Innovation (CTeI) capacities. Open from 1 July to 31 August via the hëma platform, the initiative invites universities, research centres, companies and other organisations to report their scientific and innovative capabilities. The data will help shape public policy, programmes and investments. The 2025 survey reported over 13 000 people active in CTeI, nearly 1 800 research groups and more than 3 600 specialised spaces across Bogotá.
