Bogotá infrastructure expansion begins on Autopista Norte
Construction has commenced on the expansion of the Autopista Norte in Bogotá, specifically covering the 5.8-kilometer stretch between Calle 191 and Calle 245. The project, part of the Accesos Norte II initiative, aims to improve connectivity between the capital and the Sabana Centro municipalities while addressing chronic traffic congestion and flooding issues.
The intervention will expand the roadway from three to six lanes per direction. This includes five lanes for mixed traffic and one dedicated lane for the TransMilenio system. Additional technical features include the construction of two grade-separated U-turns at Calle 224 and Calle 242, the installation of six pedestrian bridges, and the development of 11.6 kilometers of bicycle paths.
The project is being executed through a public-private partnership by Concesionaria Ruta Bogotá Norte S.A.S., under the supervision of the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) and the Institute of Urban Development (IDU). Work was able to proceed following environmental clearance from the National Authority of Environmental Licenses (ANLA) regarding the Torca and Guaymaral wetlands area.
