Bogotá infrastructure undergoes inspection after 7.4 magnitude earthquake

Following a 7.4 magnitude earthquake with an epicenter in San José del Palmar, Chocó, on August 10, 2026, the Institute of Urban Development (IDU) has activated safety protocols in Bogotá.

Teams are inspecting bridges and road corridors, including the Autopista Sur, Avenida NQS, Carrera 68, Avenida Boyacá, and Autopista Norte, to check for structural damage such as fissures or issues with slabs and expansion joints. Orlando Molano, director of the IDU, stated that the goal is to inspect 233 bridges this week. Currently, inspected bridges have shown no structural damage.
