Bogotá and Quito implement various traffic and vehicle restrictions

In Bogotá, Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán confirmed that the 'pico y placa' exemption for hybrid vehicles will remain in effect until 2027 to provide legal certainty for low-emission vehicle buyers. Additionally, the district is proposing tax reforms to the Industry and Commerce Tax (ICA) for automotive showrooms to level fiscal burdens and fund mass transit infrastructure. Authorities have also issued a warning regarding fraudulent websites impersonating the official 'Pico y Placa Solidario' platform to steal personal data and money, urging citizens to use only the official mobility secretariat domain.

In Quito, Ecuador, traffic restrictions for 'Pico y Placa' apply to vehicles with license plates ending in 7 and 8 on Thursday, October 8. The restrictions follow specific morning and afternoon time slots. However, no restrictions will be in place on Friday, October 9, due to the national holiday celebrating the Independence of Guayaquil.
